The “Ideal Line“

The “Ideal Line” is a visualized line. It enables drivers to get through curves in the fastest and safest way by holding the steering wheel at the lowest possible turn-in point and with the lowest centrifugal force.

On racing tracks it is used to reach maximum speed when driving curves.

On public roads drivers use the lane between the centre line of the road and roadside in order to use the “Ideal Line” for a material sparing drive at greatest possible safety.

The “Ideal Line” uses the complete width of the road and runs from the Turn-in-Point via the Apex upto the Turn-out-Point.Turning-in late will supply more safety, as with unclear curves ahead it will be possible to look into the next section earlier.

Most important points are: turn-in late, slowly in, quickly out!

There is no “Ideal Line” that is equally valid for everybody. It is solely recognized as a valid principle. It depends on the routine of the driver, on the speed driven, on the road holding as well as on the accelaration of the car and on road conditions.

Please see red “Ideal Line” as outlined in section Nürburgring Nordschleife.
